Scoring — how points are earned

How do I score points?

Your four teams earn points for you in every Champions League match they play:

What happensPoints
Your team wins3
Your team draws1
Your team loses0
Your team reaches a knockout round (Round of 16 onwards)+2

All four of your teams score for you and their points are added together. If two of your teams happen to play each other, you score for both sides of the result.

What counts as "reaching a knockout round"?

Each knockout stage a team appears in is worth +2 points, awarded once per stage as soon as that round's fixtures are confirmed — you don't have to wait for the match to be played.

The stages that count are the Round of 16, Quarter-final, Semi-final and Final. So a team that reaches the final earns 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 = 8 progression points, on top of its match points.

The knockout play-off round doesn't score. Teams finishing 9th–24th in the league phase play an extra play-off round to reach the last 16. We don't award points for it, so that every team reaching the Round of 16 earns the same reward whether they qualified directly or came through the play-off.

Do penalty shootouts count?

Not towards the score of the match. If a knockout tie is decided on penalties, the shootout is stripped out before scoring. A match finishing 1–1 and won 4–3 on penalties is scored as a draw — 1 point each, and only the 1–1 goals count towards your goal totals. The shootout result is still displayed underneath, for information.

The winner isn't left out of pocket, though: because they go through, they appear in the next round's fixtures and pick up the +2 progression points for it.

What do the P, W, D, L and GD columns mean?

Because you have four teams, P counts four teams' worth of fixtures — so after a single matchday you'd typically see P = 4, not 1.

How are ties broken?

If two players are level on points we compare, in order:

  1. Points
  2. Wins
  3. Knockout rounds reached
  4. Goals scored
  5. Draws
  6. Order drawn (a final fallback, so the table is always stable)

Who decides the scores?

Nobody. Results come automatically from the official football-data.org feed and update during matches. Nobody can edit a score — not other players, not the league organiser, not us. That's deliberate: it keeps every league honest.

The draw

How are teams allocated?

Every player gets one team from each of the four official UEFA pots, so everyone ends up with a mix of a top seed and a lower seed. It's completely random, and run by the league organiser.

Can two players get the same team?

Yes. With 36 teams and potentially more than nine players, teams get shared. What we guarantee is that no two players get the identical set of four teams, so nobody is your exact twin in the standings.

Can I choose my teams?

No — the luck of the draw is rather the point.

Someone joined after the draw. Do we have to start over?

No. The organiser can use "Draw for new players", which gives teams only to people who don't have any. Everyone else keeps their teams and their points.

What happens if the organiser re-runs the full draw?

Run Draw reassigns everyone's teams and resets all scores to zero. It asks for confirmation first. Use it only for a genuinely fresh start.

Joining and leagues

When do I start scoring?

From the day you join. Every match played on that date counts, even if it kicked off earlier in the evening — so joining at 8pm on a matchday still gets you that night's results. Matches on earlier days don't count: you don't inherit points from games you weren't there for. The same applies to knockout bonuses — you collect the +2 for any round confirmed on or after your join date.

This means players who joined at different times can have played a different number of matches. The P column shows exactly that.

How do I join a league?

Two ways: tap the invite link the organiser sends you, or tap Join league on your My Leagues page and enter the league code (it looks like SL-A1234).

How many people can be in a league?

Up to 72.

Can I be in more than one league?

Yes, as many as you like — they all appear on your My Leagues page.

Money and prizes

Does it cost anything?

No. Sweepstake League is free to use.

Can I win money?

Not through us. We don't handle money or prizes of any kind. If your group puts a stake in and pays out a winner, that's arranged entirely between you, away from the platform, and it's the organiser's responsibility to ensure it complies with the rules that apply to them.

Is this gambling?

No. Sweepstake League is a free score-tracking platform. We are not a gambling operator, and we don't take stakes or pay prizes. See our Terms of Use.

Your account

I've forgotten my password.

Tap Forgot password? on the sign-in screen and we'll email you a reset link.

Can I change my display name?

Yes — open the cog menu and choose Profile. Your name updates everywhere, including leagues you've already joined, and your teams and points come with you.

Can I change my email address?

Not from inside the app, as it's your account identity. Email contact@sweepstakeleague.com and we can change it for you — we'll ask a couple of questions first to confirm the account is yours.

How do I stop marketing emails?

Untick the marketing box in Profile, or use the unsubscribe link in any marketing email. It won't affect your account or your leagues.

Is my data safe?

Your data is encrypted both in storage and in transit, and passwords are stored as one-way hashes that can't be reversed — even by us. Full detail is in our Privacy Policy.

Fixtures and results

Why is the league table empty?

League-phase standings only exist once the league phase is under way. Before the first matchday there's genuinely nothing to show.

What does "My Teams" do on the Fixtures page?

It filters the list down to matches involving your four teams — the only ones that affect your score.

The knockout bracket is empty.

It fills in automatically as each round is confirmed by UEFA. Nothing for you to do.

How often do scores update?

Live during matches, straight from the official feed, and your league table recalculates itself as results come in.
